JC Residence

With the coastal and mountainous landscapes as the backdrop in the south side of Hong Kong, the seaside abode furnished and styled by Wool is a harmonious blend of art, nature and aesthetics.

About

With an extraordinary five metre high ceiling and dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows that greets one upon entry, the interior focuses on clean lines and quiet forms that allow the art and the scenic views of the greenery and sea to take centre stage.

Designed for a young professional and an avid art collector with an appreciation for contemporary aesthetics and functional design, the initial brief called for a personalised living and dining space that not only showcases the impressive East & Southeast Asian art collection but also serves as a comfortable, welcoming urban sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle, evoking a sense of tranquillity and calmness.

With the goal to create an inviting and calming atmosphere while maximising the visual impact of the artworks and picturesque views, the styling direction revolves around a contemporary yet timeless aesthetic, using a neutral colour palette complemented by vibrant accents from the client’s artworks and dark wood pieces that echoes the original architectural details of the building from the 90s.

Soft and earthy colours flow through the space, complemented by natural elements like stone, cane, wood and ceramics, which together introduces the peacefulness of nature into the interior, resulting in a home that is timeless and in harmony with its surroundings.

In the living area, a vibrant turquoise painting sets the tone as the focal point of the space, where the furniture selection provides a quiet background with light and soft neutrals, with a stroke of olive and brown earthy hues inspired by the greenery outside, mirroring the home’s natural surroundings.

&Tradition’s Develius modular sofa in a soft, exquisite cotton-linen fabric serves as the anchor of the living space, with its deep seating provides maximal comfort for relaxation. Both Jeanneret and Tearoom lounge chairs from Phantom Hands and Audo Copenhagen invites conversation and adds personality to the room. The modern travertine Atlas coffee table from New Works serves as a functional centrepiece with a play on simple geometry between the square and circle. Floor and table lamps with textured fabric shades from Santa & Cole and Audo Copenhagen enhances overall classic aesthetic and provides flexibility for ambience.

The open dining area encourages gatherings and conversations, making it a perfect setting for hosting dinner. A dark-stained oak long geometric table is paired with an intriguing dining chair set composed of the iconic Mid-Century Jeanneret V-leg chairs and a modern reinterpretation by Danish designers with the same V-leg element. The soft pastel painting stands out in contrast to the dark solid wood furniture and accent objects.

The result is a perfect urban sanctuary that feels not only luxurious and soothing but also unique and vibrant, providing a smooth transition from the landscape outside to the inside.
